Fundamentals of Leadership for Leaders in Long-Term Care
Program Overview
This program is specifically designed for leaders in long-term and the continuing care sector to develop leadership skills to be effective in leading teams and optimizing care and services for residents and families. The purpose of the program support leaders to improve their capacity to lead themselves and others more effectively. This program will also help prepare participants to develop leadership skills for advancement to more senior level positions. Leadership skill development is critical for effective career advancement and succession planning for organizations in long-term care.
This program is currently offered in-house for organizations and teams. Open enrolment dates and fees for individuals are coming soon for Fall 2022 and Winter 2023!

Name of Facilitator: Callie Bland
Capacity: Maximum 25 participants
Delivery Method: Live training via Zoom
Training Format and Duration: Consists of four 4-hour group training sessions completed within a 6–8-months for a total of 16 hours of training. Training dates will be scheduled in collaboration with the employer, team or group.
Program Fees: Please send an email to callie@coachcallie.com for more information about program fees. Fees are dependent on the number of participants.
Participants will have the opportunity to complete three types of leadership assessments as part of the program and debrief the results during the sessions. The assessments include the following:
- Gallup StrengthsFinder assessment
- EQi 2.0 leadership self-assessment
- DISC leadership assessment.
Specifically, participants will learn leadership skills to:
Take a strengths-based approach to leadership.
Adapt one’s leadership style to be effective in a variety of situations and when interacting with diverse groups.
Increase ability to manage emotional and social functioning to improve decision making, resilience, confidence, and relationships.
Apply a structured method to reflect mindfully for continuous growth and learning.
Engage in effective performance development conversations to promote engagement and build high performing teams.
Apply systems thinking and build a culture that nurtures positive change and innovation.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
Use real workplace scenarios to apply the concepts, skills and tools learned in the program.
Complete a brief action plan after each session.
Check-in on action plan progress to increase accountability.
Session Topics and Learning Objectives
Self-awareness: The Foundation to Effective Leadership
- Explore personal values, principles, strengths and limitations.
- Debrief the Gallup StrengthsFinder and the DISC assessment.
- Understand your personal leadership style and learn how to adapt your style in various situations.
- Learn skills to engage in a practice of self-reflection to promote learning and growth.
Emotional Intelligence and Leadership
- Define Emotional Intelligence and understand the composite scales and subscales of EQi 2.0 model.
- Debrief individual EQi 2.0 assessments to identify opportunities to improve emotional intelligence.
- Understand the link between emotional intelligence and wellbeing.
- Learn strategies to strengthen and balance emotional intelligence skills.
Engagement: Building High Performing Teams
- Define workplace engagement and understand the factors that contribute to engagement.
- Explore strategies to optimize team engagement and build high performing teams.
- Learn and practice the qualities of effective performance management conversations.
- Learn and apply the principles of a coach approach.
Systems Transformation
- Define systems thinking and its importance in shaping organizational culture.
- Identify the key components of systems change and barriers to change.
- Explore the qualities of a culture that nurtures innovation and continuous improvement.
- Apply systems thinking and a structured change framework to a real workplace scenario.
